— Our craft

Cedar. Stone. Heat. Nothing more.

Every JOïA sauna is shaped from premium materials. Either built in house or on-site, you can be sure that we have your best interest in mind.

No prefab kits. No imported flatpacks. Each build is designed for a single site, a single household, a single way of living - and built to outlast the house it sits beside.

- Our work

Three builds. Each one of a kind.

A small selection of recent JOïA saunas - drawn for each site, joined by hand, finished with care. No two are alike.

A cedar pavilion with a panoramic forest window and a hand-built cold plunge on the deck.

A timeless Japanese technique, Shou Sugi Ban, was used to profile the beauty of the wood and preserve it for years to come.  A Large Himalayan Salt wall was incorporated to bring a light peaceful glow and help regenerate the ambient air.

- The materials

The materials we trust

We specify a short, deliberate palette of materials - and use only these. No substitutions, no shortcuts.

01 · Five species · Two grades

Wood Selection

Clear-grade Western Red Cedar is our premium selection - tight grain, even tone, and the scent that defines a real sauna. We also offer STK-grade Western Red Cedar, plus Japanese cedar, Alaskan yellow cedar, Hemlock, and Thermowood for clients who want a different feel underfoot or on the eye.

02 · Designed in Estonia · Built to last

Huum, Harvia, Homecraft

We work only with heaters we trust to last - three names that have earned their place in serious sauna rooms. Generous rock loads, deep radiant heat, and a soft, even löyly that holds the room without scorching it.

03 · Backlit · Hand-set

Himalayan salt tiles

Optional in any build. Backlit panels of food-grade Himalayan salt — quietly therapeutic in the warm room, and a beautiful source of indirect amber light.

— A closer look

Himalayan salt tiles

When heat and steam meet the salt panels, trace minerals — magnesium, potassium, calcium — release into the room. Negative ions do the rest: a softer, kinder room to breathe and sit inside.

RESPIRATORY

Loosens airways, eases sinuses

SKIN

Opens pores, supports hydration

MIND

Negative ions, lower stress

MUSCLE

Transdermal magnesium uptake

- The benefits

Heat, then quiet.

Twenty minutes a day. The oldest wellness tool we have, and still one of the most studied.

01

Lower cortisol

Stress relief

Heat shifts the nervous system into rest-and-digest. The world gets quieter on the way out.

02

4–7× / week

Cardiovascular

Regular sauna use is linked to lower all-cause mortality and improved circulation in long-term Finnish cohort research. The heart gets a workout sitting still.

03

Deeper sleep

Recovery

Heat increases blood flow to muscles and joints, accelerates lactate clearance, and helps you fall into deeper sleep on the nights you use it.

04

1.5L / session

Skin & detox

Profuse sweating clears pores and supports the body's natural detoxification pathways.

05

Heat-shock response

Immunity

Hyperthermic conditioning produces heat-shock proteins associated with a stronger immune response.

06

20 min / day

Mental clarity

Endorphins, beta-endorphins, and a room with no notifications. The original deep-focus tool.

- The process

How a JOïA sauna begins

Four steps. About twelve weeks. No surprises after the design is signed.

I

Listen

A conversation about your site, your routine, and what 'better' looks like for you. Most builds start here, on a walk through your yard with a notebook.

Week 0

II

Design

Hand-drawn plans, renderings, and a complete material schedule. You see — and approve — every detail before a single board is cut.

Week 1-3

III

Build

Some saunas come together in our Squamish workshop; most are built on site, specific to your home and your land. Either way, the work is hands-on and unhurried - and you get progress photos every Friday.

Week 4-10

IV

Yours

We finish the build, walk you through your first session, and leave you with the care guide and everything you need to use it well. We're a call or email away if anything comes up.

Week 11-12

- Begin

We take on a small number of builds each year.

Yours could be one.

A free 45-minute consult — site, scope, and whether a JOïA sauna actually fits your life — before anything is signed.

Servicing Pemberton to Vancouver and the Coast Islands. Inquire for other areas.
